A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) director Ann Hui On Wa would receive the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society's 6th Asian Film Award Lifetime Achievement award. She would be the first female filmmaker to receive the honor. In the 70s and the 80s, Hui On Wa created many Hong Kong films of their time and received numerous awards. Today she still keeps on creating, outside mainstream films she makes work that makes viewers think.Film Festival Society chair Wong Ying Wai said, "Director Hui On Wa's influence on Hong Kong film is far reaching. At the late 70s she was a strong force in the Hong Kong New Wave. She innovated with existing film genres and created all new conventional film categories to express the gradually forming Hong Kong people identities. Yet she has never been complacent and continued to create. From 1979 she almost had a new film every year and every film's quality has been very outstanding. No matter the genre, Hui On Wa has been handy with it -- thriller, drama, comedy, horror, historical wuxia, romance, Hui On Wa has done them all and injected even richer elements. She represented a level that Hong Kong filmmakers dream of. In addition, she actively promoted Hong Kong film culture and film development. From 1993 to 2004 she served as the Hong Kong Film Director Guild executive committee member, from 2004 to 2006 she served as the chair. Early in the founding of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, she served as vice chair and contributed greatly to promoting the society's development and activities.
