Hong Kong Film Critics Society announced the 5 winners and 7 recommended films of the 18th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards on 8 January, this award is the first award to be presented every year and it’s symbolized the direction of other film awards. This year, after 8 hours of discussion and voting, Deanie Ip was crowned Best Actress for her performance in A Simple Life. Law Ching Wan won the Best Actor for the third time with Life Without Principle.
This year, there is a total of 57 films officially being screened in cinemas. It was a fierce competition for the battle for Best Film and Best Director between 5 films namely, A Simple Life, Life Without Principle, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D, Overheard 2 and Let The Bullets Fly. After multiple discussion, A Simple Life won Best Film, Jiang Wen’s Let The Bullets Fly defeated Tsui Hark’s Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D by two votes to win the Best Director award. It was also a fierce competition for Best Script as Overheard 2 and Life Without Principle have the same number of votes, after much discussion, Life Without Principle came out on top.
When interviewed, Deanie said: “Any awards is an encouragement to me, for an elderly like me it gave me confidence. Hope that all awards will repay the investor, hope director Ann Hui could shoot another film that she believed in, thanks Hong Kong Film Critics Society and once again thanks the trust of Andy Lau and Ann Hui.”
