Raymond Lam happy to recommend Kevin Cheng into EEG

Earlier Kevin Cheng was said to have secretly met with EEG executive to sign a contract, but because Raymond Lam established himself a stable position in the company, he tried to stop Kevin from entering EEG. Kevin was forced to ask his partner Myolie Wu, who is currently under Neway Star, to help him get into Neway and fulfill his singer dream. The other night Raymond attended RTHK's music awards and was asked about the rumor. He laughed out loud and cracked a joke in his response: "Why would that be?! This report is pretty funny! Do I look like a mean person?"

Later Raymond said seriously that in the past when he went to karaoke, he would definitely choose Kevin's songs. He said aside from their relationship being TVB colleagues, they are also good brothers. In the past, they were both students of the late music teacher Dai Si Chung. All along, Raymond had thought Kevin was already with a record company, but now he knows he's not. Raymond expressed if there really is interest to invite Kevin into EEG, he would personally recommend him as well.

Raymond Lam prevents entry to EEG, Kevin Cheng asks Myolie Wu for help into Neway Star

(Left: Debut Album 1993 ; Right: 2006 New + Best Collection)

Last year, Kevin Cheng rose to popularly in Mainland after the drama Startling Step by Step and was the 3 award winner TV King in both HK and Mainland. A few days ago, Kevin was spotted in a secret meeting with EEG executive Ng Yue and Virgina Lok. Unfortunately, things may not work out as expected. It was said earlier Raymond Lam, who finally managed to take a stable position in EEG, wanted to stop Kevin from stealing his spot, so he started putting pressure on Virgina. To fulfill his singing dream, it's not surprising Kevin would take more initiative to make it happen. Kevin heard the news that Raymond was trying to prevent him to enter EEG, so he quickly asked his partner Myolie Wu to help him get into Neway.

After all those years of hard work, it finally paid off. The clever Kevin Cheng took the good opportunity and went to talk to Virgina in hope to get assistance to sign with a record company. It was said Kevin had always wanted to release another album. Seeing his 'junior' Raymond Lam doing so well in the music industry, already holding three HK Colisuem concerts and won the 'Asia-Pacific Most Popular Male Singer Award' twice, it is hard for him to not be jealous.

Jealous of Raymond Lam got HK Coliseum concerts

Kevin had been Virgina Lok's favorite all along, so a few days ago she personally went out to discuss an EEG contract with Ng Yue, the executive of EEG. During the time, Kevin voiced out two conditions that he wanted in the contract. First, his debut album must include Mandarin songs to help him break into the Mainland market. Secondly, he wants to open a HK Coliseum concert to fulfill a wish he had for many years.

When the rumor broke out that Kevin might become an EEG artist, Raymond heard the news and had an opinion. An insider reveals: "Of course Ah Fung (Raymond) doesn't want Kevin in EEG, because he'll weaken his current status in the company! He even met up with Miss Lok and was very concerned if Kevin's discussion with EEG went well or not. Ah Fung was so anxious, and there isn't any reason why Miss Lok didn't know what he's thinking? So, Miss Lok is feeling very 15/16 now."

Kevin heard the news that Raymond went to talk to Virgina and quickly went for plan B. He went to ask his good partner, Myolie Wu, to help him make a connection to talk to her record company Neway Star. Currently, Chilam Cheung is the only first line singer under Neway, so if Kevin successfully enters the company too, it is much easier for him to become the Big Brother.

The other day, [Sudden Weekly] contacted Myolie about her getting Kevin a connection with Neway. She smiled: "Why don't .... you ask Kevin! Its better if he responds himself!"

In regards to the news about the comparisons with Raymond and how Myolie helped him? Kevin said impatiently: "Why are you all comparing Raymond and I?! TVB will help me handle all the discussions and with which companies. We don't have to worry about this. After all, if there is news we will announce, ok?" Kevin kept his mouth shut, but Virgina admitted they are in the discussion stages: "Kevin had always wanted to sing again. After all, in many of his series, we make arrangements for him to sing the theme song, just like the recent new series The King of Boxing. As for a new album, I'm not sure if he'll be able to release one this year because he's just so busy, he doesn't even have the time to record. However, I cannot say which company he's going to sign with yet."

Neway Star Chairman (Wong Kin Ho) directly admitted he is interested in Kevin: "He is so popular now, Neway Star is interested in him, but he's very busy. The details cannot be discussed in just 1 or 2 times."

Kevin Chengs Meets with EEG Secretly; Eager to Resurrect Music Career

Due to his performance in Ghetto Justice "怒火街頭", “Law Ba” Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) became this year’s triple award winning TV King, with his popularity exploding wildly. With his fame and fortune both rising magnificently, Kevin also hoped to release a Mandarin album and resurrect his singer dreams. After Kevin explicitly stated his music dreams, many record companies were interested in recruiting him.

AT 6 PM yesterday, EEG executive, Ng Yu (吳雨) and TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), met at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kowloon. Shortly afterward, Kevin Cheng emerged and chatted with everyone for one hour. Ng Yu was the first to leave, upon which EEG’s concert producer, Alex Fung, continued the meeting with Kevin and Ms. Lok for another hour. Throughout the meeting, Kevin listened attentively, while Ms. Lok took notes of the details.

In a telephone interview with Oriental Daily, Kevin Cheng admitted that he did not possess any masterpieces in his music career and inevitably, felt regretful. Asked whether he had discussed plans with EEG to launch a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Kevin said, “We met to toss around a few ideas. We are uncertain of the possibilities.” (How did the discussion go?) “We had a very enjoyable discussion!”

Wearing 5 Inch Heels, Myolie Wu Dispels Pregnancy Rumors

“Freshly baked” TV King Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and TV Queen Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) appeared at a ribbon cutting ceremony for a Global Timepieces promotional event. Rumored to be pregnant, Myolie especially wore five inch high heels to dispel the accusations. Kevin joked, “I text messaged Myolie to ask if the rumors were true!” Myolie immediately retorted, “That’s because he wants to have a baby!” Kevin could only blame himself for starting the trouble. The pair bantered before the press.

Regarding the pregnancy rumors, Myolie said, “I don’t think people will believe the rumors.” (Did Bosco Wong 黃宗澤 visit the herbalist together with you?) “I got a car ride on that day. Since I was not feeling well for several months, my friends recommended that I see the herbalist. I predicted that if I were to be photographed, then pregnancy questions would arise. If I were to go through any milestones in life, I promise to notify everyone!”

Kevin Cheng a New Gold Magnet

Asked whether he had reconciled with ex-flames, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) and Niki Chow (周麗淇) , Kevin replied, “The news reports continue to morph daily; I cannot follow them! Anyhow, we are friends!”

Kevin became a new generation of gold magnet, while Myolie praised him as a “super diamond bachelor.” Kevin only admitted that his fees were satisfactory. Asked if he earned $20 million HKD within half a year, Kevin said, “Wow, then one year would equal to $40 million HKD! Then if I were to work for several years, then I can retire! I’m still trying!”

When Kevin was asked whether he had to pay hefty year-end income taxes, Myolie interrupted, “He does not need to pay taxes! Isn’t it needless to pay taxes if the income were not earned in Hong Kong?” Kevin became embarrassed about “remedial” taxes, noting, “It is appropriate to pay taxes. Anyhow, I am a good value!” Myolie also admitted that her market value increased after winning the TV Queen title. She hoped that upon reviewing her savings balance in the future, there will be a bright glare.

Myolie Congratulates Shirley Yeung’s Pregnancy

Shirley Yeung (楊思琦) was reportedly expecting the birth of her first baby in the United States. Myolie congratulated Shirley and noted that having a baby was a happy occurrence and becoming a mother was a huge responsibility and dedication. Asked whether she had discussed the issue with Bosco, Myolie said, “Not so soon. We did not talk about such matters!”

Kevin indicated that he always liked children and will save [his current] watches for his children. Myolie said, “Bless you! You will have children very quickly!”

Kevin Cheng Defends Charmaine Sheh: “She Did Not Scold Niki Chow!”

Since becoming TVB’s triple-award-winning TV King, Kevin Cheng’s (郑嘉颖) workload has become overwhelming. At the same time, the amount of gossips centering around Kevin has increased as well. Recent tabloids claim that Kevin and ex-flame, Charmaine Sheh (佘诗曼) , reconciled their relationship. Rumors claimed that Charmaine even scolded Kevin’s ex-girlfriend, Niki Chow (周丽淇), in the TVB makeup studio. At a promotional event over the Christmas holiday, Kevin laughed at the recent rumors.

Two years ago, Charmaine Sheh allegedly intervened in Kevin Cheng and Niki Chow’s 5-year relationship. At Toby Leung’s (梁靖琪) wedding in early December, Kevin refused to interact with Charmaine, while taking the initiative to chat with Niki instead. This allegedly angered Charmaine. It was understood that Charmaine and Kevin have been secretly back together for two months. Allegedly, Charmaine and Kevin only retained their distance from each other at Toby Leung’s wedding to avoid the media’s suspicion of their reconciliation. Since becoming TV King, Kevin was often praised by Charmaine publicly on Weibo.

Allegedly, Charmaine was jealous of Niki, thus glared at her in the TVB makeup room one day. Another tabloid reported that to prevent any chance of Kevin and Niki getting back together, Charmaine released rumors that Niki had crew members searched when her purse went missing one day.

At a Christmas event in mainland China, Kevin sang Leslie Cheng’s (张国荣) song Blame You For Being Too Beautiful "怪你过分美丽". The audience’s reaction was surprisingly good and everyone cheered. Kevin even said happily that there was a chance that he will release a music album next year. Regarding rumors that his ex-flames, Charmaine Sheh and Niki Chow, were at war, Kevin laughed, “The reporters writing such reports can become scriptwriters! TVB is lacking talent right now. The credibility of such reports is really very low. Charmaine is well-known for possessing a high emotional quotient (EQ). The rumors are impossible! They are very funny!”

Kevin Cheng: The Biggest Gold Magnet

Three “TV King” level artists, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan (陈豪), and Michael Tse (谢天华) battled each other earlier at the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards. During the Christmas holiday period, the trio rushed towards money-making opportunities. Kevin’s “gold absorption capacity” was the highest, earning $250,000 HKD at a one and half hour event, singing one song and playing games with the fans! “Laughing Gor” Michael Tse sang one song and easily pocketed $18,000 HKD. Appearing by himself and without girlfriend, Aimee Chan (陈茵媺), Moses Chan did not sing and only played games with the fans, earning $150,000 HKD, which was slightly higher than his normal fee.

Kevin Cheng & Michael Tse's 'fight' gets into Mainland

Earlier during the TVB Anniversary, TV King Kevin Cheng and Michael Tse were rumored on bad terms because of the fight for the TV King title. Recently, the two were in Hengdian to shoot new Mainland drama Hero. Yesterday the two attended the press conference and pretended to be on bad terms by glaring at one another, but then they started laughing not long after. Michael said: "Just looking at Kevin, I feel I really love him. I am also prepared the media will magnify the focus on us, but I am not worried at all!"

Kevin proved the rumors wrong by action and gave Michael a 'kiss'. He said: "Friends can be opponents too. There can only be improvement with competition." As for Charmaine Sheh is also shooting in Hengdian right now and earlier they had reconciliation rumors? Kevin said: " We are just good friends. If there is a chance, we can have a meal together. It's not like we did something that can't in the light." He believes the first thing to do when finding a girlfriend is to become good friends with them. He even boasted that he's a perfect standard boyfriend. [The Sun] reported earlier that Kevin will be pocketing 50 million in the coming year. Just shooting 3 Mainland dramas will earn him HK$3 million. He indirectly admitted: "I can just say I am very pleased, but I am not shooting this series because of the money, but because of the crew and the script."

Kevin Cheng and Michael Tse to Portray Rival Emperors in Mainland Series, “Hero”

In this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) beat Michael Tse (謝天華) in winning the Best Actor Award. Although the battle in Hong Kong had concluded, Kevin and Michael will relocate their battleground to mainland China. In new mainland series, Hero "英雄", the pair will be arch rivals and hold a battle of wits, with Kevin portraying Emperor Fuchai of Wu and Michael as Emperor Guojian of Yue during the Spring and Autumn Period (春秋时代)!

It turned out that the two good looking men, Kevin and Michael, never collaborated together at TVB. Hero will be the first time that the pair will be partnering together. At yesterday’s press conference for Hero, both Kevin and Michael wore a scarf over a light jacket. The pair often chatted with each other, appearing friendly together.

Michael Tse Unwilling to Fall Behind Kevin Cheng

In mainland, Kevin and Michael were often labeled as competitors. Although Kevin successfully won the TVB Best Actor Award, Michael boasted, “I did not lose in acting, but lost only in popularity.” With Kevin’s popularity rapidly rising in mainland China, Michael was unwilling to fall behind, “I hope that more people will get to know me after Hero. I am not worried about our acting being compared; I am only concerned that the performance will not be good.” It was understood that Michael Tse’s filming fee in Hero will be $150,000 Yuan per episode.

Kevin Cheng’s filming fees allegedly soared to $250,000 Yuan per episode in mainland China. Taking into account Kevin’s income from filming Ghetto Justice 2 "怒火街頭II", Hero, and the modern version of Bu Bu Jing Xin "步步驚心", Kevin was slated to earn $30 million HKD. Regarding his current filming fees, Kevin stated, “I am very satisfied, but the amount is not as exaggerated as the reports claim.”

Kevin Cheng’s Pure Friendship with Charmaine Sheh

The focus of the media yesterday was on Kevin and Charmaine Sheh’s (佘詩曼) recent reconciliation rumors. Both Kevin and Charmaine were currently filming in filming in Hengdian, China. Asked by reporters about the reconciliation rumors, Kevin said they were not true. “We have always been good friends and our relationship is not as described by the media. If the opportunity arises, we will have dinner together in Hengdian. We have a pure friendship and do not have anything that cannot see the light. It is fine even if we were to be photographed by the media!”

Other cast members of Hero include Ken Chu (朱孝天) as Fan Li, an advisor to the State of Yue. Newcomer, Li Sining (李斯宁) will portray Lady Ji Jiang, whose performance will be highly anticipated. Ying Er (颖儿) will portray the great ancient beauty, Xi Shi. Hero will be broadcast on Hunan TV station in China.

It was rumored Kevin's salary in Mainland reached up to 250,000 RMB per episode. Currently Kevin is loaded with 'gold digging series', aside from the new Hengdian series Hero that he started shooting today, he also accepted the modern version of Startling Step by Step to start in mid-year and another Mainland series. The three series are estimated to bring him 30 million HKD. Kevin personally took on the scene himself, surely putting his life on the line. As he recently got into a car accident from avoiding a dog and crashed his car on the side of the road, asked if there is a 'shadow' when shooting car accident scenes? He said: "That was just a minor accident, just a small bump. There won't be any shadows."

Kevin Cheng will be cautious when meeting Mainland girls

The new TV King Kevin Cheng turns into LAW BA once again to shoot a scene in Sham Shui Po for new series Ghetto Justice II with TV Queen Myolie Wu. Kevin expressed shooting for this series will complete next Tuesday, then he will head to Mainland to shoot another series immediately after. Asked if he's getting 160,000 yuan per episode like the rumors say? He said: "It's really not just that amount!"

A few days ago, it was rumored that Niki Chow and her rich boyfriend broke up, Kevin was asked if he had comforted her? He said: "When I see her, I will. Actually, no need because we already met at Toby Leung's wedding. I chatted with her, she looks totally fine, no need to be comforted." Perhaps he should consider re-sparking with her? He embarrassingly said: "This is quite an interesting question."

When Kevin gets to Mainland to shoot series, is he afraid he'll bring trouble upon himself just like how Ron Ng and Raymond Lam did? He said: "Now we can't tar somebody with the same brush. There are all kinds of people in this world, aside from having to meet people wisely, you also have to see how your luck is. See if you meet a good girl or a girl with motives. I hope everyone can put on their glasses when meeting people." Will he reduce his opportunities to meet Mainland girls? He said: "I don't agree with this. If it's said like that, we are offending the millions of people in Mainland. It is just there is a larger population in Mainland, so there is a higher likelihood to meet a girl with motives. This is a human nature problem, can't just randomly label Mainland or Taiwanese girls. It is unfair to them." Will he choose to be careful or just choose HK girls? He said: "In fact, I want to ask you all for what reason do you believe there aren't these types of girls in HK? After all, must be careful when meeting girls. I will first treat them as normal friends, no need to rush. Test the waters first."

When speaking of personal privacy, Kevin said usually he uses two cell phones, one is for work and one is for personal use. Nobody knows his passwords. Asked if he would take intimate photos with his phone? He said after the shocking incident that occurred several years ago (referring to Edison Chen's scandal), he believes the majority won't retain these types of photos. Kevin feels the safest is to store everything inside the brain, and there is temporarily no new discoveries that can replicate the brain's memory.

Myolie Wu was asked if she's rushing to get off work, so she can celebrate Bosco Wong's birthday? She said: "Can't celebrate! He is very busy, have to shoot series and the Lunar New Year film. He is the happiest when he has work." Wouldn't her boyfriend be happier to see her? She smiled sweetly: "Work is rather important!" Will she wish Bosco to become the next TV King? She said: "I hope both TV King and Film King. I wish him good health and a smooth career. As for what birthday gift I'm giving him, of course it is a secret."

Myolie supports 'When Heaven Burns', a good show

As TVB series When Heaven Burns is getting low ratings, and may have to get cut? Myolie strongly supported: "It won't! It definitely won't! I support a series that is of a different genre and special. It's really boring to see the same old characters. Now of course this will have TV rating pressures, but I just feel When Heaven Burns is a very good series." She expressed Ghetto Justice II will also have the same TV rating pressure because the last series had such good ratings, and also features TV King and Queen as well as 'Best Supporting Actress' Sharon Chan. Myolie will just have to do her best and hope to maintain the good ratings.

Kevin Cheng will not leave TVB as long as Virginia Lok is there

Kevin Cheng won appreciation from his performance in Ghetto Justice. No one had doubts that he relied on TVB executives to get the award. Had long lacked tje 'well-deserved', Kevin sighed greatly: "This time there is only happiness when I got this award, last time I was worried and happy!" As this his second time becoming TV King, Kevin recalls his feelings 5 years ago: "5 years ago when I got TV King, I personally felt I wasn't qualified yet. This time, the feeling is different, not only did TVB presented this award to me again, but it is also because I got support from audience, the producer and other artists! I want to reiterate that I have never exchanged a contract for an award because I am a person that does not rely on friends or parties."

When speaking of the people he is grateful for, Kevin expressed aside from his mother, there are three other important women: "There are three in the television circle, including Tsang Jeh (Catherine Tsang), Miss Lok (Virgina Lok) and Amy Jeh (Amy Wong)." In the past, it was said because Virgina was hiding the truth that Kevin was able to charge straight up. The truth is Kevin and Miss Lok views differ on many occassions, but it does not get to the point where they argue. Although Miss Lok is his boss, he often does not agree or listen to her words. Kevin claims he isn't a person that 'polishes shoes' (suck up) or gives gifts. His relationship with the executives isn't especially great. In 2006, when he was spotted eating out with Miss Lok, at the time it was because of his lawsuit that he had to ask for advice. He asked back: "But later, did you all get any more photos of us eating together?"

After all, without Virgina Lok, there would not be the Kevin Cheng we see today. Kevin is not shy to say thank you to Virgina: "All along, she has taken good care of me. After all, the day she is still with TVB, you will not see me in a different company. You all can see how clear my position is. It is because of Miss Lok that I'm with TVB. I want to express my thanks to her." Kevin recalls back in 2006 when Miss Lok was producing the All About Men album, it was because of that he was able to see how it feels like to be back on the radio station doing an interview. It is also because of this, he was able to release a New + Best Collection CD in 2006. He said without hiding: "At least this satisfied my craving a little, all of it is under Miss Lok's arrangements. She still has a lot of arrangements up ahead."

Kevin Cheng gets into accident, no injuries but loses HK$800,000 luxury car

Fresh out of the oven '3 award winner' Kevin Cheng got into a car accident in Central at 8:30am while he was driving back to TVB City. At the time, he was driving alone back to TVB for work. According to what Kevin told the police, because he wanted to dodge a dog, so he carelessly steered his car up on the curb. The glass from the right side of the hood of his car shattered and also the airbag popped out from the crash. His expensive HK$800,000 luxury car suffered from serious damages, but fortunately Kevin himself was not injured. After the accident, Kevin instantly got out of the car and called the police. He passed the breathe test, quickly called the tow truck and didn't even have time to report the accident to his insurance, since he had to rush back to TVB to continue shooting for Ghetto Justice 2. However, he was forced to miss the first shooting, but later he went to Tsim Tung to shoot a scene with Myolie Wu and Evergreen Mak. Later in the afternoon, he continued in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Recently Kevin has been busy shooting and attending celebrations simultaneously. Although he's on a tight schedule, he still took some time off the other day to attend Toby Leung's wedding. Yesterday morning he went straight back to work and this morning he flew to Singapore for The 16th Asia TV Awards Presentation. On the 20th, he'll be heading to Hengdian to start shooting for new series Hero.

According to TVB Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs (Tsang Sing Ming), there wasn't just one car accident in TVB yesterday. New series Dangerous Protection crew were headed to Tai Mo San to research the location and the van suddenly lost control and dashed down the hillside. The four staff in the car suffered from light injuries. As for lead actor and actress Bosco Wong and Linda Chung, since the trip wasn't related to performing, they were not required to go, so were not in the van.

Kevin Cheng Parties Until 4:30 AM Celebrating Triple Awards

Winning three awards at the 2011 TVB Anniversary, TV King Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) excitedly shared the victory with fifty fans outside TVB City last night. Fans prepared a cake and a “fourth award” for Kevin, who popped two bottles of champagne in excitement.

After the Anniversary Awards, Kevin posed for some photos for the TVB magazine and headed to Wan Chai at 2 AM, attending the private celebration party organized by Myolie Wu (胡杏兒). In attendance were also Virginia Lok (樂易玲), Sharon Chan (陳敏之), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Koni Lui (呂慧儀), Sire Ma (馬賽), Mandy Wong (黃智雯), Johnson Li (李思捷) and numerous other celebrities. Kevin partied until 4:30 AM and staggered away drunk, requiring the support of Ben Wong (黃智賢) when they stepped out.

Yesterday afternoon, Kevin resumed filming Ghetto Justice 2 "怒火街頭II". His face appeared tired and he obviously had a hangover from last night. “Right now, I feel a bit wing wing!”

In an interview with Eileen Cha (查小欣), Kevin discussed his fe elings upon receiving three awards at the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards. “Last night, I was very surprised. I felt it was okay in receiving the My Favorite Male Character Award and it was a pleasant surprise to receive the Best Actor Award. When the results for Best Actor were announced, my heart was beating very quickly. My brain blanked out when I received the Best Actor Award, which is why my acceptance speech was a bit disorganized.

“Michael Tse (謝天華) also possessed a high chance in winning Best Actor, as his performance was very good. There was also a chance that Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) would win the award for the third time. As a result, my mood was quite unsteady.” Kevin considered that he might lose. Wearing a bright red suit at the awards ceremony, Kevin joked, “If I were to lose, I should not lose in the wardrobe department!”

In 2006, Kevin Cheng won the TVB Best Actor Award for his performance in Under the Canopy of Love "天幕下的戀人", sparking extreme controversy. This year, Kevin finally shone in his [well-deserved win]. Kevin said, “After receiving the award in 2006, I was attacked. At the time, I vowed that if I were to receive another award, it is necessary to receive the majority consensus. Five years later, I finally accomplished this goal!” Indicating that there were many years left in his TVB contract, Kevin denied extending his contract for the awards.

Kevin Cheng: “My Life Is Marked by High Peaks and Deep Pits!”

The recent broadcast of mainland series, Bu Bu Jing Xin "步步驚心", led to a sudden burst in Kevin Cheng’s (鄭嘉穎) popularity in China, with his salary shooting through the stratosphere as well. However, when Kevin was working in Taiwan a decade ago, his career hit rock bottom and he did not even have money to buy dinner, requiring his mother’s cash assistance instead. Perhaps now, it was the right time for Kevin’s meteoric rise!

Kevin noted, “My life is marked by dramatic ups and downs. There were several low pits in my life, ha ha, the rock bottom period was when I was working in Taiwan. After the release of my first album in Taiwan, the Asian financial crisis hit, which resulted in a delay in production of my second album.”

Did Not Know What to Do With Idle Time

“When I was a singer, I did not have much to do after the recording of a song. The most was spending time to practice singing. However, you cannot practice for more than a few hours each day. In this manner, a day passed and another day passed…. After six months passed, my second album has not been released yet. My anticipation in awaiting the album’s release slowly turned to disenchantment.

“In my idle time, I bought some cooking books to learn how to cook so that I can save money. My earlier savings had slowly depleted by almost 80 percent. Although I had already spent two years in Taiwan, I released only one album. The music company told me that the sales were only lukewarm. At that time, I had little earning power and depended on my family for help to pay for meals. Without my mother’s support, there was no way I could continue to work in the entertainment industry!

Making a Comeback Through TVB

“My financial distress lasted for over one year. During this time, it was the lowest point in my life. I had nothing to do each day, only going out to buy groceries, cook meals, and read books to pass the time. It was not until Lee Kwok Lap (李國立) invited me to film Taiwanese drama, The Legendary Siblings "絕代雙驕", that I became an actor. For a certain time, I resisted in the idea of turning from a singer to an actor.

“Without The Legendary Siblings, then I would not have signed a contract with TVB. ATV purchased the broadcasting rights of The Legendary Siblings to air in Hong Kong, which attracted TVB’s notice that I could act. TVB invited me to come back to Hong Kong to film for them. Since my return to TVB, things have been smoother.”

42-Year-Old Kevin Cheng Craves Marriage: “Only Smart Women Apply!”

Forty-two-year-old Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) has been single for a long time. Eager to date, get married, and have children, Kevin wished to enter another stage in life. Despite his eagerness, the first step in choosing a partner was setting the criteria. Between beauty and wisdom, he would prefer to choose a smart woman. Since marriage was for a lifetime, Kevin noted, “I’ll go without than settle for someone shabby (寧缺勿濫)!”

“At my age, why would I not wish to date? It’s a very normal thing to do. Actually, I do not mind revealing my dating status as long as it is not at the outset of the relationship. In a relationship, you need to go through a bit of understanding before dating. When the dating relationship has stabilized, then it is okay to reveal it. Oftentimes, the relationship did not reach that stable period yet, then how can I reveal it? I do not mind openly dating and will not get married secretly. If I were to get married, I will notify everyone. If I were to have children, I do not mind letting others know but please do not photograph them; this is [for their privacy] and to protect them!”

Need to Be Extra Cautious

“At my age, I no longer need to worry about a wife and children affecting my image. I am no longer 18 or 22-years-old. However, I can not rush it and have to encounter the right person first. Due to my old age, I need to be extra cautious. If I encounter an incompatible wife and there is a need to get divorced, it would be such a headache! I hope to be successfully in one attempt and have several children!

“Regarding the selection criteria for a partner, the most important thing is compatibility so that we can be friends, able to talk about anything and discuss matters reasonably. It would be great for a woman to have both beauty and wisdom; however, if I had to choose, I would prefer wisdom. In reality, a love relationship’s passion will dwindle over the long-term. If we can remain friends, then our relationship can endure. When the children grow up, they will not accompany you for the rest of your life. In old age, spouses will support each other, so it is most important to find someone who you can talk to.

“My life is like this right now; I have to continuously divide my time between Hong Kong and China. People ask me what is the difference between Hong Kong and mainland girls. I said that the only difference is one speaks Cantonese and the other Mandarin!”

Kevin Cheng's pants gets pulled down while hanging on water pipes

Kevin Cheng was in Sham Shui Po shooting for TVB new series Ghetto Justice 2 and attracted a large group of neighboring residents surrounding the location and asked for pictures. The scene was about Kevin upsetting Myolie Wu and was prohibited from entering the house, so he had to climb the water pipes and get in through the window.

Initially it was just necessary for Kevin to reveal his boxers, but a staff member was too excited to let reporters capture the best photos of the 'behind' and ended up pulling down Kevin's jeans instead. The surrounding onlookers were all shocked to see such a scene. Completely unprepared to show his 'beautiful butt', Kevin shouted loudly while handing on wires: "I thought the pants would come off from hanging here? Why is someone pulling it down now?" It was a very funny moment.

Later, Kevin expressed his fear: "It was pretty embarrassing, for no reason my pants was pulled down." Last time Kevin's 'butt crack' cleavage was well-received, this time his cleavage was on a bigger scope. He stressed this time he won't have to show his butt: "It's just boxers, I have protection underneath."

When speaking of the great noise for him to become this year's TV King, Kevin exaggerated he hopes to get both TV King and My Favorite TV Character awards: "Don't let it be no awards."

Reporters asked if Laughing Gor (Michael Tse) is his greatest opponent? Kevin expressed an opposing view, that he supports Wayne Lai. When reporters suggested Kevin to not wear anything to the awards ceremony, Kevin heard this and laughed: "That is extreme! I don't dare, don't have the confidence in this area."

Kevin Cheng sees Wayne Lai & Michael Tse as his greatest opponents

Last night, Kevin Cheng appeared just as if he was LAW BA for the TUMI new store opening ceremony. Kevin is one of the hottest picks for TV King this year depended on his role in Ghetto Justice. At the scene, many fans were fighting to get his autograph, and Kevin couldn't help but let out a smile of confidence: "I just came back from Beijing, my manager told me of the news right away, I really thank all the support my colleagues gave. It is really 'Great Minds Think Alike' because I got support from others, so there would not be a reason why I shouldn't have confidence. It is because of them, I will have confidence in myself!"

Kevin said the awards ceremony hasn't taken place yet, so it's all too early to judge. He said he hopes for good results. As for his tough opponents, Kevin supports his two greatest opponents Wayne Lai and Michael Tse. As for TV Queen, he believes its between Myolie Wu and Fala Chen. He said: "I watched Wayne Lai's performance in Forensic Heroes III. Although I didn't watch Laughing Gor, the ratings were really good and it was a popular hit, the two are my strongest opponents. As for TV Queen, Myolie had great accomplishment in the last several years and she was part of the few highest rated series. At least I believe her performance in Ghetto Justice was great. However, Fala's Madam Jo is also very popular among the audience."

Recently, it was rumored TVB's contract renewals became an exchange for awards. Kevin does not believe in this, he said: "Contract terms shouldn't be determined with awards and pay raises. Just like Wayne and Sheren Tang, last year they won TV King and Queen, and there wasn't any special raise or signing for a long contract. I believe TVB keeps contracts and awards separate as two different things. All is decided by the people, it is also the great source of encouragement for us artists."
